Profile Information

Main instrument/ musical interest
There are many but let's say 'Got Oud!'
I am musician living in Brooklyn, NY. I create improvisational music that seeds from influences ranging from folk and traditional to 'free' jazz to noise and avant garde. Though a guitarist for many years, in the last three years I've been fascinated with fretless instruments and working in an improvisational way. I currently work with electric violin, oud and fretless guitar. I also occasionally use native flutes in my music. I perform both traditionally and virtually as a solo artist as well as with Chinapainting, Dig It Signal (with Ning member Jeff Duke) and other online collaborations. Additionally I"m a Mel Bay author, a photographer and video maker and editor.

Richard Lainhart / Lucio Menegon recording

I wanted to pass this along as Richard Lainhart was a member of ImprovFriday.  As known Richard's life on this earth sadly concluded in late December of last year.  Lucio Menegon, New York based composer/multi-guitarist, was working with Richard during 2011 on an ongoing collaboration that produced 7 pieces before Richard died.  Lucio recently finished mixing these and plans for a label release in 2012 from several interested parties.  He…

From Loopers Delight project 11 11.11

On 111111 Rick walker of Loopers Delight proposed an 111111 project similar in scope to what Roger is curating for IF. As I had done a track initially for the LD project, it's on this collection as well as Rogers future release.

This collection form the Loopers list is really nice, produced by Rick and assembled by Michael Peters.…

Burst from the Sky

This was probably seen by all on my FB couple weeks ago but if not as part of the annual RPM Challenge which asks musicians to produce a 'CD' of work all done within the month of February including the production of the physical disc and release.  I've participated as Kavin in the RPM event for several years though I missed last year.  We were supposed to release Digitsignals Cold Wolves at that time and I could not get it…

I hope you do not over look this comment: 1/2 of my equipment in my little sound studio is now inoperable or useless since it depends on the inoperable machines - this includes Kyma. It is all very old equipment and very difficult to replace. The other 1/2 is is fairly new and in good condition.
For the time being I plan to mostly post piano improvisations or field recordings. I hope the piano improvisations that I have posted so far are satisfactory: I posted them in response to one of your comments about one of these some time ago.

OK, Jim - no problem. If you can't make it, we'll just need to get someone else to set up the stream on the IF front page.

I forgot to answer one of your questions yesterday.

5 people not on If contacted me recently by e - mail since the Ipod posting of the inter view. They were all from David Toub's website which probably will close down; they wanted to keep in touch; I had never seen their names before. They never mentioned the interview in their e-mails to me.

Jim, It is really impressive how you and the rest of the IF team put together things like the interviews, the weekly commentaries, etc.. I would be totally lost doing these things.
Thanks again
